Villain: PredatorsUsually I talk about villains we all face that are attitudes/misconceptions/fearsBut have have had several conversations with people who have be targeted by these Villains at some time in their lifeParents! There are REAL horrible people that are looking for young people to manipulate for only what can be called evil purposes.Here are strategies that work:1- Think long and hard about cell phones. Groups of sex traffickers use teams of people (from teens in the schools to professional groomers) to seek out and target using social media. 2- Eat as often as you can together as a Family around a dinner table. Your strongest defense is a loving family and you get that by sharing food around the dinner table.3- Know all your kids friends by name. If they seem sketchy, they are. Make sure if they are together they are in your house with your rules.4-Use the media in your favor- ALL THE TIME. Any time you are watching a show- call out the behavior: "No real friend would do that." "That Dad is making a BIG mistake..."I am astonished at the number of adults I know who have be targeted as kids or who have had close scrapes.I usually only talk about this stuff in workshops, but I want to know what you have noticed and any strategies you have.

Not clubs of entitlement, but clubs whose goal is service.Look at where all these clubs started:Kiwanis- DetroitElks- New YorkLions- ChicagoMoose- LouisvilleCosmopolitans- Kansas CityEagles- SeattleRotary- ChicagoSertoma- Kansas CityShrine- New YorkWhile all of the above started in America- they are ALL international today.Remember - the American ideal is not about a standard of living-It's about a standard of GIVING.Any fellow service club members out there? Behind the Camera:So Brian Slipka and Ali Gabriel scored me some tickets to this Canaries game.I asked my daughters (who might be able to tell which end of a bat to hold!) if they wanted to go. They brought their husbands- they all ditched their kids at a babysitter 😜 A stranger walked up to at Zachary Selby and said "Hey, one of our bachelor party guys couldn't make it- you want this free all-you-can-eat-and-drink pass?"Zach shrugged, said "Sure." and gave it to his brother-in-law Kyle Meier (the happy in the grey t-shirt)Meridith Selby, shook her head- "Zach is the luckiest man I know."Which is true! 😆 But, the most BLESSED man, is the guy in the blue Canaries hat, who had four families willing to drive up to three hours just to go spend some time with sisters/brothers/parents.Not sure how this happened, but here's a guess:All ball-game long, the sisters, asked trivia questions about dumb family stuff:"What did Dad serve after ballet practice?" (answer: Frozen spicy beef Reser burritos with cottage cheese- cheap and fast 😉)"What is Dad's favorite line out of School of Rock?" (answer: "Hey Freddy Jones...SHADDUP!")Here's what I remember from those days:We were tired. We were stressed. We never had enough money. At any given time something needed fixing that we couldn't afford.But it turns out, we did the most important thing possible- we spent time with our kids. We ate a lot of meals around a table. And we sat in the front row in church.Parenting Genius? Not me! (Maybe Libby) Accidental? Probably. But it worked- and if you still have kids in the house, I thought I'd share a picture of what money can't buy.Hey Hero! Watcha Doin' with the family this summer?
