Yakuza returns with Yakuza Kiwami 2 and with it, tons of new Substories. This Yakuza Kiwami 2 Substories Guide will tell you where to find all of the Substories in the game, how to complete them and the rewards you get for doing so.
As with past Yakuza games, the Substories in Yakuza Kiwami 2 unlock as you progress through the game. The vast majority of the time new Substories are unlocked as you progress through the chapters of the main story. Below is a list of each chapters Substories, at the earliest point we discovered them. Don’t worry if you miss them in the early chapters, they can all be completed at later chapters if you so wish.

Chapter 1 Substories

You need to clear the first three beginner batting challenges and Dandy Johnson will appear. He wants to pitch against you in the baseball cages. If you win, you get one of his signed baseballs but if you lose you lose 10k. He throws all sorts of different balls and at different speeds so be sure to practice before challenging him. [/accordion_item][accordion_item title=’Substory #21: Against All Odds’]Head to Lullaby Mahjong and interfere with the ruckus outside. You need to win a game of Mahjong. When I attempted it, I had a Peerless Tile in my inventory that I found somewhere. I was able to use it before the match, then choose the top option in the bottom right during the game, and I instantly won. You can get a Peerless Tile as a reward for completing Substory #31: Duel With The Mentor.

You need to catch a Robot Manager from one of the UFO Catcher machines and give it to him. You receive 30,000 Yen as a reward. Once complete head to Iawo Bridge to find the Robot Manager on the floor then return to Club SEGA to catch a Robo Chief instead. You receive an Italian Ring. Wait some time and return to Club SEGA to speak with Satonaka again. You receive a Gold Robo CEO.

You need to wait until Chapter 4 and then return to speak with him. After all that you have to fight with the team and when you win you will beat the Substory. You get a Conservative Cell Phone. You must have completed the Advanced Course on the Closest to Pin Challenge at the Golf Center. You need to get 300+ points to complete the challenge and the Substory. You get Albatross Akagi’s Club, which is a weapon, as a reward.

Beat his streak with 3 wins and you receive 100,000 Yen. There’s a few more encounters around the town, check your map for the blue speech icons. At the end I chose to give him 100,000 Yen and received a Charismatic Photo

You get Councilor Saeki’s Book as a reward. Head to the Eastern bridge once you have the book and a depressed man will happily take it off you. Later you will find an old man attempting to collect a debt near the East bridge. After a short while check your map for the next location. You receive a Modded Model Gun and complete the Substory.

He will ask you to find him a fresh pair of pants. Head to Don Quijote Kamurocho, the large store at the South end of town, and buy some Green Trunks and pure white briefs. Return to have the Janitor becomes your ally.

I spent between 50,000 and 100,000 Yen, left the store and had a fight, then returned. That was enough to be considered a regular. The Kamurocho Poppo Clerk becomes your ally.

There is a door off the streets that leads to an elevator. Take it up to the 4th floor. Spa with Cyclops Oba to complete the Substory. You receive a Flattening Throw Primer to learn a new move.

Return and speak with Cyclops Oba, then hand over the item. Beat him in battle again to complete the Substory. You get a Tiger Crash Primer to learn a new move.

Return the lost amulet to the group and offer to help with the interview. Start with “It’s nice to meet you”, then “Being a team player is important”, “He really helped people get along”, “It shows she’s a diligent worker”, “It’s good to experience other cultures”, “That’s a future-proof industry”, “That’s a great workplace attitude”, “I used to be in real estate”, “I’m thinking of starting an Orphanage” and finally, “Thank you for having us”. You get a Japanese Diver’s Watch.

As you walk down the street a large guy will ask for your help and email. He will send you a text to head to a park and search for a key under the bench. Get Kamurocho Locker Key C1 and then head to meet the guy in the alley. Follow the next objective to Theater Square and speak with the guy with the hair. He’s down the stairs near some drinks machines. Beat Masa in the following scene. You receive 150,000 Yen,
[/accordion_item][accordion_item title=’Substory #08: Mr Try And Hit Me’]Speak with the guy in the parking lot. He will offer to pay you a lot of money if you can hit him. Just punch him as soon as the fight starts. You get 30,000 Yen.

She will then ask you to find a pet for a new orphan boy. You’ll get a text from Haruka soon after. Then meet Mogusa at the Theater Square to collect the pet and then return. You get a Photo of Pochitaro, and that completes the Substory.

You’ll learn she was scammed and you need to track down the scammer and beat them down. You get an Everyday Renovations Card. Return to the lady to complete the Substory.

Speak with the lady aftercompleting Substory #05: Supporting Sunflower and Substory #06: Renovating Sunflower. Kiryu will ring the contractor and agree to meet in the Champion District again. Meet the worker, take down the Yakuza, job done. Report back to the lady to receive the Handmade Scarf, a Sunflower Amulet

Speak with the main wearing the red shirt and gold chain. Listen to his rap and you get a Michael Naoya’s Self Produced CD as a reward. Head to Club Sunshine and give the guy outside the CD. You get a Slick Fountain Pen. Head to the Pawn Shop and give the pen to the girl in return you get Chic Boots. Head to Earth Angel. There’s a couple of ladies at the bar, speak with them and then find the scarf at the Childrens Park. Give the homeless man the boots in exchange for the scarf. Finally, return the scarf to get a Swiss Watch.
[/accordion_item][accordion_item title=’Substory #15: Rising From The Shadows’]Not far from the Taxi at the start of Chapter 6. Get the Dirty Video off the guy there. Head to the video store to watch the tape. Speak with the Medium and give him 100,000 Yen, you get it back. You get an Exorcism Stone.
[/accordion_item][accordion_item title=’Substory #16: Secret Stash’]Head to the Hotel District and speak with the big guy. Pay the 20,000 Yen and you get a Locker Key B1. Head to the lockers and open it. Take the video to the video store and watch it. Head to Cafe Alps to tell them about the hidden camera. Chase the guy down, beat up some punks. Job done. You get 20,000 Yen.

He will mention something about a hidden cache near Beam. The password is in the place that you do bouncer missions. Head inside and talk to the man in the corner, it will cost you 50k to get the info out of him. You will get two answers that you need to use on the Bartender. Take-Chan’s High School Heaven and the total amount of all the drinks at Cafe Alps, 2600 Yen total. Beam is on E Taihei Blvd. This unlocks the backroom weapon dealer.

You will get a phone call soon after. You’ll get hounded by emails, phone calls and texts until you are tasked with visiting the HQ. Take the elevator up to the 3rd floor and go into the office. Pay your debts, Kiryu style, to complete the Substory.

You then need to challenge and defeat Gensho at the arena. He was in the cataclysm tournament for me, his style before you know his name is Jujitsu. Return to Sotenbori and complete the Substory for Kawauchi’s Primer.

I had completed all 4 Leagues and 3 dates with Koyuki. For the first guy, wait and see. Same for the second, and the third. Eventually a guy in a grey suit will approach the panties, catch him. Stash the panties and you get to keep them. Although it does upset Koyuki.

You need to wait for a text message to continue. I didn’t receive it until Chapter 9. Once you receive it, head to the parking lot and speak with her. You’ll have to wait for another text and do the same again in a different location. This time you receive a Scroll of Spearmanship and complete the Substory.

Head to Theater Square to get some information. Then go to the offices near Park Blvd. Beat the guy down and then smash all the computers in the office.

Speak with him a bit later to sell the shares for 700,000. Speak to the group nearby and then return to finish the Substory.

Near Theater Square in Kamurocho, I got another text from Granny White. Head to Stardust and ask Yuya for a photograph. Then head to Sotenbori and give the photograph to Granny White. You receive a Scroll of Impenetrable Body.

You will get another message from Granny White in Kamurocho at the South end of Nakamichi Street. You will need to bring Haruka to visit Granny White. Just East of Bishamon Bridge by the water side. When you start the fight search a shortways down the sidewalk and you’ll see a tazer. Hit him with it. Then he will attack you again, take him down to complete the Substory.

Return the favor. When she asks for his name it’s “Takuo Yoshioka”. That completes the Substory and you receive Staminan XX.

You need to track a few guys down then beat up Kojima. Head to the video shop to complete the Substory. You get Locker Key J4 as a reward.

Head to the bridge and chat with the man there. Follow him to give him the script. Then head to the video store to watch the movie. Head back to the bar and answer with “A Yakuza fighting for the woman he loves” and “The action was subpar”
Once in the apartment choose “Welcome back, Young Master”. “I’ve failed you patriarch”. You get a red band for completing the Substory.

Chapter 13 Substories

Speak with the two ladies wearing dresses. It’s a simple Substory, chase down a few objective points to receive a Heavenly Beasts Bracelet.
[/accordion_item][accordion_item title=’Substory #04: Rooftop Revenge’]Head to East Shichif*cku Street, you’ll see a group of people surrounding the edge of the building. Talk the guy down using the obvious options. You receive Spy Gloves for completing the Substory.
[/accordion_item][accordion_item title=’Substory #38: Kazuya Amon’]You must have completed all previous Substories. Head to the parking lot on East Shichif*cku Street. Amon is always one of the most difficult battles in Yakuza games. Stack as much Blade Resist gear as you can and prepare for a difficult battle.
[/accordion_item][accordion_item title=’Substory #39: Jiro Amon’]You must have completed all previous Substories. Head to the alley behind Serena’s and fight the next Amon. For this battle you want to stack stun resist and Gun Resistance. Beat him down to complete the Substory.
